Bangor Cork moves to new facility in Wind Gap, Pennsylvania to expand business

Bangor Cork, a U.S. supplier and distributor of cork rolls, cork sheets, and a manufacturer of cork boards, chalkboards, and whiteboards, has supplied products to a variety of markets—such as education, general contracting, OEM, furniture manufacturing, interior design and more—since 1935.

Until 2008, Bangor Cork operated out of six buildings in Pen Argyl, Pennsylvania. As business continued to grow, logistics between buildings became more difficult to manage, especially during rain or snow. Pete Raines, the owner of Bangor Cork, sold the buildings and moved into a leased facility with improved material flow.

“Our intent was to spend a few years in the leased space and look for a permanent home near our former Pen Argyl location where we could expand the business,” said Raines.

Nine years later, Raines found the new location in Wind Gap, Pennsylvania that lies between Interstate 80 and the Route 22 / I-78 corridor which is convenient for shipping routes. With four times more space than their previous locations—including more warehouse space with higher ceilings—Bangor Cork is able to increase inventory exponentially.

Shop space also increased, allowing for new equipment and processes. “We are adding new cutting capabilities and are looking at equipment that will improve our laminating process, making it more efficient,” says Raines. Recently, Bangor Cork has seen a boost in requests for printing on cork products, and are investigating equipment to meet those needs.
